Tbilisi 3D Festival: A Kinetic Lookdev Study
Creative Vision & Concept This project is a brutalist, typography-driven key visual concept created as part of an advanced Cinema 4D masterclass workflow. The artistic direction revolves around clean, geometric blocks interacting through natural physics. By treating branding elements, dates, and locations as tangible physical objects, the piece bridges the gap between traditional graphic design and dynamic 3D environments.
Technical Execution in Cinema 4D The scene is built using a structured procedural workflow that maximizes simulation accuracy and artistic control:
Rigid Body Dynamics & Simulation: Utilizing Cinema 4D’s native physics engine to simulate realistic weight, friction, and natural settling behaviors for the geometric stack. The blocks are simulated with exact mass distribution to achieve a stable, organic composition upon collision.
Cloner & MoGraph System: Implementing MoGraph Selectors and Effectors to control the precise layout, scaling, and orientation of secondary graphic primitives (like the wireframe spheres).
Texture Mapping & UV Overlays: Every typographic element and vector pattern is mapped as high-resolution custom texture maps. Utilizing precise UV projection to wrap bold, experimental typography around sharp bevels without distortion.
Lighting & Material Design (Lookdev): Developed using matte, high-absorption materials to give the scene a tactile, screen-printed poster feel. The lighting relies on soft, diffused area lights to maintain bold color blocks while creating subtle contact shadows that establish depth.
The Outcome This lookdev study demonstrates how strict grid layouts and brutalist poster designs can be brought into three-dimensional space, providing a highly scalable and dynamic visual system perfect for modern cultural festivals and identity design.
